You have to be at least 18 years old to stand as a candidate in a ward.

If you want to represent one of the existing parties you have to go through a ‘vetting’ process and interviews before your candidacy is voted on by the select committee for the party.

Of course if you want to stand as an ‘Independent’, as long as you submit the correct paperwork and fee, no interference from other parties should prevent you from standing.

There are other rules about making sure you are not a declared Bankrupt; you can’t stand if you’re a Judge. Civil servant or a member of the armed services
