1. Clovis was referring to servants as being a trouble.
2. Dora sold a hen of a rare breed at an extraordinary price to Jane. Jane thought that now she would have a very, a great number of pedigree chickens. But the hen, never laid the eggs and this spoiled their relationship.
3. Mrs. Sangrail was Clovis's mother. She was unable to postpone Dora typically coming to her as she had done it previously as well.
