when bassanio coes to belmont to woo portia he was to make the right choice between the caskets(lead,silver and gold).portia was afraid that she will not be able to marry him if bassanio makes the wrong choice so she tells him to wat or day or two before making his choice by then she teach him how to choose the correct casket. then she tells him that if she could she would have told her the right casket but by telling him the right casket she will be going against his fathers will who is now in heaven and by going against his fathers will she will be committing a sin.
