Volunteer (Current Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - July 9, 2012

I became a MANNA kitchen volunteer in 2010 because I was looking to do something useful with myself in addition to looking for a job. The reason that I rated Compensation/Benefits and Job Security/Advancement so low is because I am only a volunteer, but MANNA does care about its volunteers. It couldn't produce and deliver over 80,000 meals a month to people living with chronic, life-threatening illnesses without them. Volunteering at MANNA is one of the highlights of my week; the chefs and porters (who prepare and cook the food, assemble and package the meals, clean) and volunteer reps are very approachable, show you how to do each task and help to make the time spent enjoyable. Another good thing are my fellow volunteers-students w/ and w/o their teachers, groups from various employers, non-profits, individuals. I get to meet different people and it is one of the most pleasant environments I've ever been in.
