Answer: In the poem A Tiger in the Zoo written by George Leslie Norris explains the helplessness and agony of a caged tiger in a zoo. The poet explains what his (the tiger) life would be if he were a free animal. The poet sought to describe the plight of animals that people keep for their own enjoyment

Explanation:

a) Velvet quiet which means the tiger has very soft feet, like velvet because of which there is no sound of the footsteps of the tiger

b) Metaphor: Tiger’s paws are compared with velvet (pads of velvet)Personification: The tiger is personified as the poet refers to the tiger as "he"

Imagery: The poet creates an image about the tiger ("He stalks in his vivid stripes The few steps of his cage")

Oxymoron: use of adjectives opposite (contradictory terms appearing in conjunction) (quiet rage)

Enjambment: Sentence continues to next line without any punctuation mark ( "He stalks in his vivid stripes The few steps of his cage")

Consonance: use of ‘s’ sound (his, stalks, stripes) Assonance: use of vowel sound ‘I’ (in his vivid stripes)

c) There, the poet claims the tiger in the zoo is moving around the cage beneath the light colored fur in the cage. The tiger can only take a couple moves because the cage is tiny and moving around it isn't easy. He says. The movements cannot be heard tiger has very soft feet, like velvet because of which there is no sound of the footsteps of the tiger. The tiger tries to manage his frustration by pacing softly around his cage's restricted area. The tiger is angry because he is not free.
