Heavy rains disrupt normal life in Marathwada

• The heavy rain on Saturday inundated railway lines and roads and disrupted ordinary life in three neighboring Mumbai districts— Palghar, Thane and Raigad. The weathermen in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) on Sunday have predicted moderate to very heavy rainfall.
• Owing to the bundling of cars on the highways, the weekend plans of many families went Haywire. . As the water flooded the tracks in Kalyan, Badlapur and Karjat district in Mumbai the train service between Kalyan and Karjat, part of the larger Mumbai-Pune Central Railway (CR) system, was disrupted. In Mumbai's Mankhurd-Ghatkopar area, one person was electrocuted to death while a five-year-old was injured.
• A Vasai study reported that near the Chinchoti Waterfalls at least 40 people have been trapped. However, the District Emergency Management Teams arrived and rescued 35 of them when they got a SOS call.  There are attempts to follow up on the other five.
• A cyclonic activity is currently centered over and around Chhattisgarh. Over Marathwada on the higher levels is another cyclonic circulation. According to Skymet Weather an offshore is running from coast to coast of Kerala through the coast of Maharashtra
• Therefore it is predicted that rains activity alongside a few very strong showers along the west coast will continue with moderate to significant rainfall. Activities of rainfall increase over Marathwada. In the next 24 hours even Vidarbha will be experiencing strong spells including parts of Marathwada, Skymet said.
• Port warning was also issued by the IMD along the coast of Maharashtra-Goa. On Saturday and Sunday, Central Railway cancelled its Deccan Express Mumbai-Pune due to the existing weather and forecasts. Sunday passenger Karjat-Pune-Karjat is also cancelled.
