Baat athani ki is the story of two servants, Rasila who was the servant of engineer Babu Jagat Singh and Ramzan, the servant of district magistrate Shekh Salimmuddin.Rasila gets Rs.10 as his monthly salary. But instead of using it for himself, he sends it to his family, father, wife and children, which is in the village.The engineerand magistrate were neighbours. So. Ramzan and Rasila were friends too. They talked for long hours and shared sweets and fruits.
One day, on Ramzan's insistance, Rasila told him that his kids were sick but his master would not give him an advance. He needed money badly but could not come to the decisin of switching jobs. So, he was sad.Ramzan felt bad and brought some money and gave to Rasila even though he had not asked for it. Rasila was happy and thought high of Ramzan.
After some time Rasila's kids recovered and he had repayed most of Ramzan's money only 50 paise were left.Once, Jagat Singh had asked Rasila to bring some sweets worth Rs.5 (Jagat Singh liked sweets). Rasila thought this as a perfect opportunity to pay back to Ramzan. Therefore, he buys Rs.4.5 sweets and paid 50 paise (athanni) to Ranzan. But Jagt Singh had hawk-like eyes and easily found out that something was off. He suspected that Rasila had bought sweets worth Rs.5.He asked Rasila but he lied. Unfortunately, he was shaking so badly that it gave off his lie. Jagat Singh bet him black and blue.
He took Rasila to the police station and bribed the police officer to force him to confess. In the court, the judge after hearing the case out questioned Rasila e=who confessed immediately, not wanting to lie again. But the judge being a lover of justice (*sarcasm*) sentenced Rasila to 6 months of jail.Ramzan was angry and said, "This is not justice, this is injustice. It was just an athani and he got 6 months jail." He also said that when at night the people who accept bribes are sleeping on luxurious beds, the ones who stole only 50p are sitting in jail.
