Bacillus thuringensis forms a protein which is toxic to insects but it is formed in an inactive form.after it entering into midgut of  insect it transforms to activated Bt toxin by the secretion of alkaline solution.this toxin  is dissolved in high ph of insect gut and attacks which finally causes its death in couple of days.
