Well, this is a very interesting topic to discuss about!!

And this is also a highly debated topic among Islamic scholars.

I'll answer this question in 'MY' way....

As everything can be seen with different perspectives by different people, I'll try to clear your doubt in the same way.

It is true that music acts as a medicine for us. It gives us peace of mind.

It is true and we can't deny it.

But according to your question, music is forbidden in Islam.

And this is also a truth which cannot be denied.

God has made this world with a purpose. He made everything with a purpose. In this world, everything is made for our benefit, but it depends on us that how we take advantage from these resources.

Islam has forbidden music, for a purpose and our benefit.

Music is something which is done in leisure time. But wasting time is also bad in Islam, as time is money and the time which goes away never comes back.

The main aim of Muslims, not only muslims but every person, is to please God and get closer to him.

In today's time, each and every person is so busy that we hardly get any time even for our near ones.

So, if we listen to music in our leisure time, what about fulfilling our aims??

Instead of listening to music, we can do things which please our God. We rarely get some time free, so we should utilize this time to get closer to our God. Every moment of a person's life should be spent in high thinking and in being productive...

This was the logical reason due to which, I believe, music is forbidden in Islam.

Now, I'll give you some authentic material.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH said,"There will appear people in my ummah who will hold adultery, silk, alcohol and musical instruments to be lawful." (Sahih Bukhari)

Some scholars interpret that music is not totally forbidden and it depends on the type of instruments used.

And yes, another logical reason...

The kind of music and singing, which goes on nowadays is absolutely forbidden because you know of what type they are...

(Interpretation of the meaning):
“[Allaah said to Iblees:] And befool them gradually those whom you can among them with your voice (i.e. songs, music, and any other call for Allaah’s disobedience)…” [al-Israa’ 17:64]

"Indeed successful are the believers those who in their prayer are humble and those who keep themselves aloof from Vain (words and deeds)." (23:1-3).

It is also said that music and Quran cannot exist in one heart...

The world is not eternal. Our main aim is to succeed is the exam of the Day of Judgement. We don't know when is the end of our life, so it's better to prepare ourselves for that test..!

Based on hadiths, we'll generally find differences among the opinions of different scholars and people from different sects of Islam believe in different hadiths..So, I'm no one to judge in this matter!! God knows the best.

(There are nasheeds which are praises of God...)
Before ending, I must say the reward for not listening to music....

It is a hadith, that the person who stops himself from listening music, he'll get the reward of seeing God on the day of Judgement. (This is not the complete hadith. If you want to know, I'll say you the link and you can see the video)

I also want to say that some times, we may listen to music. So that's simple, just seek forgiveness from Allah....He will surely forgive.

And lastly, I'm sorry if anyone is being hurted by my answer or anyone who is against my answer...Sorry for that!^_^

HOPE MY ANSWER IS SATISFACTORY AND NOBODY IS HURTED BY IT...
