Nostoc is a genus of phylum cyanobacteria. They contain a high amount of proteins and vitamins especially vitamin C.  

For example, 100 grams of dry N. commune contains 39.9 grams of proteins, 5.5-6.1 grams of carbohydrates, 5.0 grams of lipids and 24 - 27 grams of ash.

It is why it is used as a food supplement in many places.
