People have different ideas and thought to celebrate the vibrant festival of Baisakhi. Mostly people of Punjab and Haryana celebrate it with immense intensity and joy.

Speech on Baisakhi

Baisakhi marks the formation of “Khalsa Panth” under Sri Guru Gobind Singh and is also the start of New Sikh Year. All sections of the human population celebrate this pleasurable Festival throughout India. Baisakhi marks the start of the harvest season in North India, especially Punjab. Devotees visit Gurudwaras and distribute prasad, offering prayers to God. People celebrate Baisakhi with full excitement and dance around the bonfire in the evening.

Baisakhi and Agriculture

India is an agrarian country, and the thinking of thanksgiving for a good harvest is a vital reason to celebrate this festival. When the winter clouds drift away and the field indicates the need for renewal, it marks the start of harvest Festival, Baisakhi.

We celebrate Baisakhi on the first day of Hindu month on the 13th or 14th of April. Gurudwaras transforms into a place for everyone to meet and celebrate as one. Farmers perform dance and sing songs in order to thank nature.

People celebrate Baisakhi in the joy of the preparation of crops like Wheat, pulses, oilseed, and sugar cane. The farmers get into the excitement of rejoicing, looking at the crop swinging everywhere. It is the time when the most popular bhangra dance is performed in celebration.

Sun enters the Aries sign on the day of 13/14th April. This day is also celebrated in Bengal as a new year, calling it Nabo Varsho. People of Bengal welcome the new year’s eve worshipping Goddess Durga and Lord Shiva. People take the resolution of the country’s growth, prosperity and unity. They dance and sing and enjoy sweets and delicious dishes.

Baisakhi and its Historical Importance

Baisakhi is actually a month of festivals with huge historical importance. The second Guru of Sikh, Sri Angad Dev was born in this auspicious month. According to mythological narration, Lord Brahma created this universe on Baisakhi.

This day marks the start of the Vikram era and Sri Ram had his coronation on this day. This month is also linked with Mahavir Jayanti, the foundation of Arya Samaj and the beginning of Navratra.

Conclusion

Baisakhi is celebrated all over India with different names and traditions. Bhangra and Gidda are the centers of attraction among many eye-catching events of Baisakhi. On this very day, people pay tribute to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh who sacrificed their lives for the country.

The Golden Temple of Amritsar is highly decorative and its beauty is very mesmerizing. Tourists from all over the world visit Punjab to witness the true color, festivity, and celebrations of India. While the northern states of India celebrate it as Baisakhi, Southern states celebrate it as Puthandu in Tamil Nadu and Vishu in Kerala.

People of Assam perform the famous Bihu dance during this month. This festival serves as a proof of the famous phrase ‘ unity in diversity’.
