When we add baking soda to vinegar, there is a small explosion like reaction which is actually the evolution of CO2 or carbon dioxide gas

This evolution of CO2 is called as effervescence

Baking soda is NaHCO3 and

Vinegar is CH3COOH

NaHCO3 + CH3COOH -----> CH3COONa + H2O + CO2
