Given :

  • C₁₀H₂₂ + O₂ ➝ CO₂ + H₂O

To find :

Balanced chemical equation

Solution :

Step 1)

Firstly see number of Carbon atom in hydrocarbon on reactant side.

  • C₁₀H₂₂ ➝ 10 carbon atom

________________________________

Step 2)

Now on products side write number of CO₂ molecules equal to number of carbon atom in reactant side [ here it is 10 ]

  • C₁₀H₂₂ + O₂ ➝ 10CO₂ + H₂O

________________________________

Step 3)

Now see the number of hydrogen atom in hydrocarbon on reactant side.

  • C₁₀H₂₂ ➝ 22 hydrogen atom

________________________________

Step 4)

Now on products side write number of H₂O molecules equal to half the number of hydrogen atom in reactant side [ here it is 22 ]

  • C₁₀H₂₂ + O₂ ➝ 10CO₂ + (22/2)H₂O
  • C₁₀H₂₂ + O₂ ➝ 10CO₂ + 11H₂O

________________________________

________________________________Step 5)

Now add the number of oxygen atom in present on product side.

1) 10CO₂ ➝ 20 Oxygen atom

2) 11H₂O ➝ 11 oxygen atom

Total oxygen atoms = 20 + 11 = 31 oxygen atom

________________________________Step 6)

Now on reactant side write number of O₂ molecules equal to half the number of total oxygen atom in product side [ here it is 33 ]

  • C₁₀H₂₂ + (31/2)O₂ ➝ 10CO₂ + 11H₂O

________________________________

Step 7)

Now multiply number of molecules on both side by 2 , so to get a natural number.

  • 2 × [ C₁₀H₂₂ + (31/2)O₂ ➝ 10CO₂ + 11H₂O ]
  • 2C₁₀H₂₂ + 31O₂ ➝ 20CO₂ + 22H₂O

ANSWER :

2C₁₀H₂₂ + 31O₂ ➝ 20CO₂ + 22H₂O
