Number of Pb atoms on the left = 1 .

Number of S atoms on the left = 1.

Number of O atoms on the left = 4 .

Number of Pb atoms on the right = 1 .

Number of S atoms on the right = 1 .

Number of O atoms on the right = 2 + 2 = 4 .

∴ The equation is balanced already .

We need to balance equations in order to justify the Mass-energy conservation theory .

Note that the mass of the reactants will be equal to the mass of the products . The reactants are the substances which react and the products are the end products that are formed due to the reaction .
