5SiO2 + 2CaC2 = 5Si + 2CaO + 4CO2

CaC2 is calcium carbide. If we allow to react calcium carbide with water then we get acetylene.acetylene is very important initial compound to prepare very  important organic compound. SiO2 is silicon dioxide. It is carcinogenic. Here we also get silicon. CaO is calcium oxide.Fused calcium oxide is a dehydratng agent. In this reaction gaseous carbon dioxide is evolved.
