Additional information -

For balance the equation by using oxidation number method steps are :-

Step 1 -

  • Calculate the oxidation number of all compound or element present in the reaction.

Step 2 -

  • See that which compound or element is oxidising or reducing.

Step 3 -

  • Give the number by which the compound or element is oxidising or reducing.

Step 4 -

  • Make the both number equal by multiplying some digit, if required.

Step 5 -

  • If Oxygen is more in reactant side or product side then add water where oxygen is less.

Step 6 -

  • Add H+ ion opposite to where water is added.

Note -

  1. If 1 molecule of water is added in reactant side then, 2 H+ ion should be added in product side.
  2. If 2 molecule of water is added in product side then, 4H+ ion should be added in reactant side.

Step 7 -

  • Check the number of charge in both reactant side and product side. (If charge is equal in reactant side and product side then your answer is correct).
