Answer:

here , Fe oxidizes from +3 oxidation state to +2 oxidation state,and simultaneously sulphur reduces from 0 to -2 oxidation state

always remember this trick to understand the basic difference between oxidation and reduction,

OIL:-Oxidation is loss of electrons

RIG:-Reduction is gain of electrons.

hence ,

 Fe^3+ =  Fe^2+ +   1 e^-1       ..........(1)

 (So)2 + 2 e^-1 = (So 4)^-2     ...........(2)

Explanation:

hence ,

  SO2  +  FE3+  =   FE2+   +   SO4^2-

      2    [  Fe^3+ =  Fe^2+ +   1 e^-1  ]

   (So)2 + 2 e^-1 = (So 4)^-2

________________________________________________

2(SO)2  +  3 FE3+  + { 2 e^-1 }  =   3 FE2+   +  2  SO4^2-  +  {2 e^-1}

HENCE OUR REQ. EQUATION BECOMES

2(SO)2  +  3 FE3+   =     3 FE2+   +  2  SO4^2-

I HOPE IT HELPS.
