Hey there !
Na + H₂O ---> NaOH + H₂
Balancing a chemical equation means there should be equal no: of atoms on both the sides.
Here on one side there are 2 atoms of Hydrogen (H)
But on the Left side there [ NaOH ] there is only 1 atom of hydrogen.
Hence ,to make it balanced we multiply it by 2.
Then it becomes 2NaOH
As here there are 2 atoms of sodium on the right side , we need to multiply the left side which has sodium, with 2.
Hence Na becomes 2Na
Hence , the balanced equation is ==>
2Na + 2H₂O -----> 2NaOH+ H₂
Na + H₂O ---> NaOH + H₂
