Iron(III) oxide (Fe 2O 3 ) reacts with aluminium(Al) to form aluminium oxide(AAl O 3 ) and molten iron(Fe). This is a displacement reaction as aluminium displaces iron in iron(III)oxide to form aluminium oxide. Also it is a redox reaction as both oxidation of aluminium and reduction of iron is taking place. The equation can be written as:

2Al(s)+Fe 2 O 3 (s)→Al 2 OO (s)+2Fe(l)+heat
