Balanoglossus is a marine animal found in the temperate oceans. It is a type of worm belonging to the order of Enteropneusta. It is a deuterostome possessing branchial openings and showing affinity to various groups of organisms.
However the Balanoglossus is considered an important connecting link between chordates and non-chordates (vertebrates and invertebrates) as they have notochord, gill-slits (branchial openings) and the dorsal tubular nerve cord which are the three main characteristics of chordates
