The Gulbarga District Adi Veerashaiva Samaja has urged the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes to concede its long-pending demand for including the Ädi Banajiga community under category 2A of Backward Classes to enable them to avail themselves of the reservation benefits.

Members of the samaja, led by its preident Jagannath G. Shegji, met chairman of the commission N. Shankarappa here and submitted a memorandum, citing reasons for including Adi Banajiga community under 2 A category.

The memorandum said that Adi Banajiga community was socially, economically and educationally backward, and fully deserved 2A categorisation.

Mr. Shegji said that the S. Siddagangaiah Commission, which had been appointed to look into the demand, had toured the entre State in 2005 and submitted a detailed report to the government, recommending inclusion of the community under 2A category. However, the State government had failed to implement it so far, he said.

Banajigas have chiefly been recognized as Veerashaivas or Lingayats across the Karnataka and come under the backward category.

The Gulbarga District Adi Veerashaiva Samaja has asked the Karnataka State Commission for Reserved Classes to acknowledge the request for adding the Ädi Banajiga society underclass 2A of Backward Classes which will help to facilitate to avail themselves for all the advantages.
