Another poem written by Sarojini Naidu is ‘The Gift of India’. In this poem she remembers the brave Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I and are buried in foreign lands all over the world. She has written the poem in a such a way as if it Mother India is calling out and mourning over the death of her martyred sons. Mother India believes and visualises that soon good things will prevail in the world of hatred and fear, and that nobody would ever rule over human lives. Through this poem, Sarojini Naidu describes the feelings of sadness yet pride that Mother India wishes to express to everyone. It is said that brave soldiers lie on the Egyptian sands like shells, they sleep silently on the Persian waves and some are strewn like blossoms on the meadows of France that have become red with their blood.

‘Hopeful prayer is the only solace even when our anguished hearts with overwhelming sorrow swell with pride at the thought of our gracious and mighty soldiers. A time will come when peace will be the order of the day in the shattered world.’ This is the true message that the poet wishes to convey through this poem.
