Given :-

  • BANJO + VIOLA = VIOLIN .

To Find :-

  • Value of "O" .

Concept used :-

  • Each alphabet takes only one number from 0 to 9 uniquely.
  • Two single digit numbers sum can be maximum 19 with carryover. So carry over in problems of two number addition is always 1.
  • Try to solve left most digit in the given problem.
  • If a * b = kb, then the following are the possibilities :- (3 * 5 = 15; 7 * 5 = 35; 9 * 5 = 45) or (2 * 6 = 12; 4 * 6 = 24; 8 * 6 = 48) .

Solution :-

B A N J O

+ V I O L A

V I O L I N

as, we know that , if the sum is equal to more than 1 digit,

left most number must be equal to 1.

So,

  • V = 1 .

Putting value of V now,

B A N J O

+ 1 I O L A

1 I O L I N

Similarly, Solving rest we get,

  • B = 9
  • I = 0
  • A = 3
  • O = 4
  • N = 7
  • L = 2
  • J = 8

Therefore, The value of "O" will be 4.
