Personal account rule

Debit- the receiver.

Credit- the giver.

Real account rule

Debit- what comes in.

Credit- what goes out.

Nominal account rule.

Debit- all expenses and losses.

Credit- all incomes and gains.

Now

The journal entry will be

Surendra's A/C   DR

      To Bank A/C

(Bank returns Surendra cheque dishonoured)

At the time of deposit

The bank A/C should be debited as cheque is being depositing there and

customer A/C should be credited

But

At the time of dishonoured

The customer A/C should be debited as he is getting his cheque and Bank
