BaO is soluble but BaSO4 is not..why??

It is not soluble in water due to small size of Bao it is easily hydrated by water molecules,like Li is best hydrated due it's smallest size in its group the same stands for BaO but you should also check for enthalpy of formation of both BaO and BaSO4 and compare with heat of hyderation of both.
OR
The lattic enthalpy of BaO is less than its hyderation enthalpy because of the large size of Ba ion and smaller size of the oxide ion.
Therefore Bao is soluble in water.On the other hand in Baso4 the size of Ba ions and sulphate ions are very large and therefore the lattic enthalpy is much large than the hyderation enthalpy.Therefore BaSO4 is insoluble in water
