Representation of Data - Bar Graphs:
A bar graph is a graphical representation of data in forms of rectangular bars of varying height but they are at equidistant from each other. They help to compare values with one another of same type, that is, the values must be of the same type. Before making a graph, we must have a frequency table depicting the data. There are two types of bar graphs - vertical and horizontal bar graphs.
⇒ Vertical bar graph
In vertical bar graphs the data bars are vertical. The x-axis represents the type of data and the y-axis represents the frequency of the data.
⇒ Horizontal bar graph
In horizontal bar graphs the data bars are horizontal. The y-axis represents the data type and the x-axis represents the frequency of the data.
In order to make your graph attractive, the data bars can be shaded using colours.
Other modes of graphical representation:
✳ Histogram
✳ Line graph
✳ Line plots etc.
What is a frequency table?
→ A frequency table is a tabular form of representing data before plotting it in a graph.
→ The data is clearly marked indicating each part and its frequency.
→ Certain frequency tables also make use of tally marks where the frequency is represented by vertical lines.
