N = (X-1)(A+1) + L

L = initial position at which the first white bead is placed = 1

X = number of white bead

Putting the values in the above formula our equation becomes,

N = 4(X-1) + 1

Hence we can find out the serial numbers as follows:

N₁ = 4 x 0 + 1 = 1

N₃ = 4x2 + 1 = 9
