perimeter of the rectangular flowerbed=2*(l+b)
=2*(20+12)
=2*32=64m
barbed wire to be put out = 64m
1pole is for 1 meter
so,there will be 64 pole for 64 meters

Total 64 poles are required.

Given:

  • Barbed wire is to be put around a rectangular flowerbed measuring 20m by 12m.
  • if poles are erected after every one metre so that the barbed wire can put around.

To find:

  • How many poles will be needed?

Solution:

Step 1:

Find the number of poles along length.

As length of flower bed is 20 m and poles are erected after every 1 meter.

So,

Along the one side of length of flowerbed, total 21 poles are to be erected.

*For the reference, see the attached image.

It is a rectangle of 4×3.

The points shown on the side AE are poles which are at 1 metre distance.

So, A,B,C,D,E ; i.e 5 poles on one side of length.

Thus,

Total 42 poles on the length of flowebed.

Step 2:

Find the number of poles along width.

As width of flower bed is 12 m and poles are erected after every 1 meter, but at the corners poles are erected already.

So,

Along the one side width of flowerbed, total 11 poles are to be erected.

*See the attachment, when we mark points along length sides (A,E,J,F), so we need not to erect pole again there.

For 3 units, we need to erect only 2 poles.

Thus,

Total 22 poles on the width of flowebed.

Step 3:

Find the total poles erected.

Total poles = 42 + 22 \\

 = 64 \\

Thus,

Total 64 poles are to be erected.
