Question Given:-

Barium chloride on reacting with ammonium sulphate forms barium sulphate and ammonium chloride. Which of the following correctly represents the type of the reaction involved?

(i) Displacement reaction

(ii) Precipitation reaction

(iii) Combination reaction

(iv) Double displacement reaction

Correct Answer:-

 \sf \pink{Option \ D}  \sf \pink{(¡¡) \ and \ (¡v)}

_____________________

Explanation:-

 \bold \pink{BaCI2(NH4)2SO4=>BaSO4+2NH4CI}

A Reaction is a double displacement reaction as ions of the reacting molecules are exchanged.

Barium ion \bold{(Ba^2+)} combines with sulphate iron \bold{(SO4^2-)}to form barium sulphate \bold{(BaSO4)} and ammonium ion \bold{(NH4^+)} combines with chloride ion \bold{(Cl^-)} ion to form ammonium chloride \bold{(NH4CI)}barium and sulphate ions combine to form precipitates of barium sulphate.

 \bold{Ba^2+(aq)+SO2-4(aq) => BaSO4(S)}

Therefore option [D] is correct ✔️

Answer:-

Given:-

Barium Chloride (BaCl₂) reacts with Ammonium Sulphate [ (NH₄)₂SO₄ ] to form Barium Sulphate [ BaSO₄ ] & Ammonium Chloride (NH₄Cl).

Chemical Equation:-

BaCl₂ + (NH₄)₂SO₄ ⟶ BaSO₄ + NH₄Cl

From the above equation we observe that,

BaCl₂ is a salt & Ammonium Sulphate is acidic compound.

We know,

Salts formed by 1st & 2nd group elements , when reacted with acidic compounds generally undergo neutralisation reaction & form the precipitate after the reaction.

From the above reaction , BaSO₄ is the precipitate formed. Also, Barium ion & Ammonium ion got displaced since Barium ion is more reactive when compared with Ammonium ion. So, it displaced the Ammonium ion.

Since, two ions got displaced after the chemical reaction and a precipitate is formed, the given reaction can be termed as Double displacement reaction and a precipitate reaction or neutralisation reaction.

Thus, the correct answer is Option - D.
