Base of the dam are made wider. Why?

Answer:

So that less pressure is exerted, as well know that pressure is inversely proportional to surface area. So dams have a great surface area, because of which less pressure is exerted.

Its wider because it can hold a lot of water.... And keeps the dam stable....it holds water in a stable way hope hlpzzz
