A marine ecosystem can be divided into three zones :
(i) Littoral zone: the uppermost zone of Shallow water where the phytoplankton are present .
(ii)Limnetic zone : the middle layer and ranges from the end of littoral zone to the depth of light penetration .Most of marine organisms are found in this region .
(iii) Profundal zone: also known as aphotic zone which makes up the deepest layer.This layer hardly receive any light. It sustains very little life and organisms like snail ,crab, mussels etc are found.
