Based on the diagram, match the trigonometric ratios with the corresponding ratios of the sides of the triangle.

Trigonometric ratios Corresponding sides ratio

cos B ------------------------------------ C/B

tan C ------------------------------------ B/A

sin B ------------------------------------- B/C

tan B ------------------------------------- C/A

Solution :-

we know that,

  • sin θ = Perpendicular/Hypotenuse
  • cos θ = Base/Hypotenuse
  • tan θ = Perpendicular/Base
  • cosec θ = Hypotenuse/Perpendicular
  • sec θ = Hypotenuse/Base
  • cot θ = Base/Perpendicular
  • Also , Perpendicular is opposite sides to θ .

so,

→ cos B = Base/Hypotenuse = C / A .

→ tan C = Perpendicular/Base = C / B .

→ sin B = Perpendicular/Hypotenuse = B / A .

→ tan B = Perpendicular/Base = B / C .

therefore, correct match of trigonometric ratios with the corresponding ratios of the sides of the triangle will be :-

Trigonometric ratios Corresponding sides ratio

cos B ------------------------------------ C/A .

tan C ------------------------------------ C/B .

sin B ------------------------------------- B/A .

tan B ------------------------------------- B/C .
