The basic principles are :-
1. Homologies : based on common anatomical characters
2. Parallelism : a similar evolutionary development in different species after divergence from a common ancestor that did not have the characteristic feature but had an initial anatomical feature that led to its evolution
3. Convergence : development of similar anatomical feature in distant animal species
4. Analogies : development of same features in species having no common ancestor

The Linnaean Classification System
• The current groupings of organisms from largest to smallest are: kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species. Within these groups, the higher you go, the less similar organisms in the group may appear. Few organisms, however, may share some similar characteristics.
