Given chemical reaction,


BaSO4+4C=BaS+4CO

This is an example of redox reaction which involves both oxidation and reduction process.

Here barium sulphate undergoes reduction where oxygen is lost.


BaSO4=BaS

Carbon is oxidizing agents which gets oxidized the carbon monoxide.

4C=4CO
NOTE:

Oxidation is involves addition of oxygen.


Reduction reaction involves removal of oxygen.
