Bassima evaluated the expression below.
2 (12 minus 14) squared minus (negative 5) + 12 = 2 (negative 2) squared minus (negative 5) + 12 = 2 (negative 4) minus (negative 5) + 12 = negative 8 + 5 + 12 = 9.
What was Bassima’s error?
Bassima did not multiply 2 and 12 first.

 Evaluation \: of \: the \: expression \\ by \:Bassima

 2(12-14)^{2} - (-5) + 12 \: (given )

 = 2(-2)^{2} - (-5) + 12 \: \blue{ ( correct ) }

 = 2\red{ (-4) } - (-5) + 12 \: \pink{ ( wrong ) }

 = 2\green {(4)} - (-5) + 12 \: \green { ( correct ) }

 = 8 + 5 + 12

 = 13 + 12

 = 25

Therefore.,
