In battle of Plassey the nawab armies and the company faced each other at Plassey ( a mango grove) on 23rd June 1757. Company got the support of manichand ( the nawab officer in-charge of Calcutta now known as kolkata, Mir Jafar ( the commander in- chief of nawab army) , jagat Seth ( an influential banker) , and Om chand ( an intermediary) .

The battle of Plassey was the first significant victory of the English in india.
