Answer:

B.C. refers to "Before Christ," and the initials, A.D., stand for Anno Domini, which is Latin for "In the year of our Lord." This system was devised by a monk in the year 525.

  • The period before that is known as B.C. (short for Before Christ) and the years after are known as A.D (short Anno Domini, and meaning the Year of our Lord).
  • What can make this system confusing is that events in the B.C. era are dated in descending order, whilst those in the A.D. era happen in ascending order.
  • 1 AD is similar to zero on the number scale. All dates before it is are as BC (Before Christ), whereas all dates after it including it are as AD (Anno Domini - Latin for 'The Year of the Lord').
  • So, 2000BC is older than 1400BC which is older than 1AD older than 1400AD older than 2000AD, now simply called the year 2000.

hope it helps
