I) resultant resistance R is given by

1/R = 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 3/3 = 1 (since they are in parallel)

R = 1 ohm

2) current across 5 ohm resistance = 1 amp

voltage across 5 ohm resistance =

V = IR = 1*5 = 5 volt

this voltage will remain same across all resistors

so current across 4 ohm resistor

I = V/R = 5/4 = 1.25 ohm

current across 10 ohm resistor = 5/10 = 0.5 ohm

3) rating of bulb = 200 v, 100 w

we know

watt = volt x ampere

W = VI

100 = 200 x I

I = 100/200 = 0.5 ampere

now, V = IR

200 = 0.5*R

R = 200/0.5 = 400 ohm

if five such bulbs burn for four hours

KWH = 100 x 5 x 4/1000

2 kWh or 2 unit of electrical energy
