Its said that cold particles cannot travel more distance hence we cannot sense the smell then in the experiment of potassium permanganate in cold water after sometime the cold partickes of potassium permanganate move upwards then in this they are travelling certain distance

The kinetic energy of particles of water increases with increase in temperature. Therefore, the particles of hot water move faster. This increases the rate of diffusion. Hence, potassium permanganate diffuses faster in hot water than in cold water.
