Beans and pulses are rich in nitrogenous compounds due to the presence of rhizobia/rhizobium.

Legumes like peas, beans and pulses grow in a symbiotic relationship with the nitrogen fixing bacteria in the soil.

The bacteria take in nitrogen from the atmosphere and “feed” it to the legumes.

In return, the bacteria receives carbohydrates from the leguminous plant.
