When heat is supplied to change the date of the substance, it doesn't really change the temperature of the substance because all this heat energy is used by the particles to break free from the forces of attraction between them. This heat is called the Latent Heat.
It is because of this heat that the thermometer reading remains constant for a while till all of the ice has converted into water.
