Let the distance be Y

The speed be m

And the time be x

At any particular point the speed is constant.

It is a multiplicative constant that is multiplied by time to get the distance.

The equation of the line is :

Y = mx

Now let Y be the remaining distance for the journey to be complete

Now given that Becky has to cover 8 miles, The distance left at any particular time can be modeled as :

Y = 8 - 6x

Where x = time

The answer is thus :

Y = - 6x + 8
