Answer each of these questions in two or three paragraphs (100-500words).
1. What are the main features of the mechanical teachers and the school rooms that Margie and Tommy have in the story?
ANSWER : In the story 'The Fun They Had' is set in the frame of future where robots and machines will play a important role in education, studies etc. Margie and Tommy had a mechanical teachers which had big screen on which different lessons were taught, questions were asked and tests were taken. Also it had a slot where students used to put their home works. The mechanical teacher used to calculate marks in no time. The students were taught next to their bedroom. The mechanical teacher never fell ill except few which used to get disorder.
2. Why did Margie hated school? Why did she think the old kind of school must have been fun?
ANSWER : Margie's school was next to her bedroom. She was alone, no classmates, so she didn't have any fun at all. She started hating her mechanical teacher more when her mechanical teacher was giving her test after test in Geography and she was doing worse and worse. She also hated when the County Inspector repaired her mechanical teacher, when she hoped that he would not be able to the mechanical teacher back together. She thought that old kind of school were fun, where children used to sit together in a same building, and they had a human teacher. The human teacher used to teach the students in a interesting way and make some jokes so that the children do not feel bore.
3. Do you agree with Margie that schools today are more fun than the school in the story? Give reasons for your answer.
ANSWER : Yes, I totally agree with Margie that schools today are more fun than the future. She had no classmates. She was all alone, she cannot play with her friends. And as the teacher was a robot who don't understand the level of students and gives tests after tests if the student don't perform well. Whereas old kind of school had human teacher. The teacher was friendly with the students. The students used to have different activities and had lots of fun.
