Given : Beena makes a patchwork as shown in figure. She cut outs these pieces (triangle, square, and trapezium) from square cloth of 3m

To find :  area of cloth remaining

Solution:

Area of cloth = 3 * 3 = 9 m²

Area of square = 14 * 14 = 196 cm²

Triangle height =  √10² - 8² = √36 = 6 cm

Triangle base = 2 * 8 = 16 cm

Area of triangle = (1/2) * 16 * 6 = 48 cm²

Trapezium height = 21 - 14 - 6  = 1 cm

Trapezium base = 23 cm

Trapezium top = 20 cm

Area of trapezium = (1/2) (23 + 20) * 1  = 21.5 cm

Total area cut = 196 + 48 + 21.5   = 265.5 cm²

1 cm² = 0.0001  m²

Total area  cut  = 0.0265.5  m²

Area of cloth remaining = area of cloth - area of cut

9 - 0.02655  m²

= 8.97345 m²
