Before 10 years father's age was 3 times of son's age.
After 10 years father's age will
be 2 time of son's age. Find the

If you set the father’s age as y and the son’s age as x then you can write the equations y= 3x (bc the father is currently three times as old as the son) and y+10=2(x+10) (bc in ten years the father will be twice as old as the son). If you swap the Y in the second equation with 3x (bc as we proved in the first equation 3x=y) and distribute the 2 to the x and the 10 you get 3x+10=2x+20. Now subtract 10 from both side and 2x from both sides and you get x=10. Plug 10 in for x in the first equation (y=3x) and you get y=30. So now you know the son is 10 and the father is 30.
