On 1st Feb 2017, Arun Jaitley presented a combined railway & general budget. Before that, till 2016, separate budget of Railway ministry used to be presented in Parliament.The practice of a separate Railway Budget was started by the Britishers in 1924.

Thus, The Railway Budget got merged with the Union Budget of India. This 92- year old practice of separate budget stopped.

Hence, Before 2017, Railway Indian ministry used to have its own separate budget.
