A syringe has a plunger that fits tightly to a tube called barrel that is cylindrical in shape. The plunger can be used to pull and push along the sides of the tube allowing the syringe to take up or to expel the liquid as well as gas. Before using the syringe the plunger is first pressed to the bottom of the barrel to remove any air present in the barrel as air inside the barrel makes it difficult to push the plunger for withdrawing the medicine.

Before drawing a medicine into the syringe the plunger first pressed to the bottom of the barrel to ensure that there is no air or any other substances in the barrel.
Otherwise, the medicine cannot work properly.
Presence of air inside the barrel can also cause death to the patients.
