Before nuclei evolved, other than unicellular organisms, there existed prokaryotic organisms like the bacteria and archaea.

A prokaryote is basically a single celled organism with no nuclei.

They are not divided by any membrane and are in a single open space.

The DNA which is supposed to be the main component of hereditary is found in nucleoid.

Other than that the other components present are flagella, ribosome and chromosomes.
