Answer:

  1. Land: Land resources include all those features and processes of the land, which can, in some way, be used to fulfill certain human needs. As can be seen from the definition of “land” given in Chapter 1, these resources are numerous and complex. To study land resources as a general academic excercise is not impossible, but it can only be done with major simplifications. It is easier therefore to study land resources from a more defined standpoint. For this text, the self-evident standpoint to take is that of the use of land resources within agricultural land utilization types. Only occasionally will some reference be made to other rural land utilization types.
  2. Water: Water resources are natural resources of water that are potentially useful. Uses of water include agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. All living things require water to grow and reproduce.
  3. Soil: Soil resources are a form of environmental asset providing a range of ecosystem services. A key feature of soils is their delivery of supporting services including the formation of and function of the soil itself, nutrient cycling, water cycling, structural support of vegetation and soil biodiversity.
  4. Plants: The plant resources form an integral part of a huge inter-dependent system that encompasses the physical components and the biological community of life. These resources have enormous prospective benefits to humankind. The ever-increasing population and climate change over the years have contributed substantially to the pressure on plant resources leading to their decline or loss in nature. Hence, there is an immediate need to develop suitable conservation strategies for proper utilization and sustainability of these important resources.
  5. Animals: Animal products are used as food directly or indirectly. Milk, eggs and meat are important examples of food from animals. Animal products too are a rich source of nutrients. The food chain is composed of exactly these animals starting with organisms that use the energy of the sun to the apex at which the organisms are predators and rely on producers.
  6. Building: Buildings serve several societal needs – primarily as shelter from weather, security, living space, privacy, to store belongings, and to comfortably live and work. A building as a shelter represents a physical division of the human habitat (a place of comfort and safety) and the outside (a place that at times may be harsh and harmful).

Hope this helps.
