Step-by-step explanation:

Cost of 3kg of mangoes and 12

bananas is birr 280 and cost of 2kg of mangoes and 18 bananas are birr 300

To find - Cost of 1 kg of mangoes

Solution - Let us assume the cost of

mangoes to be x and the cost of bananas to be y. Representing the given information in equation form we get :

3x +12y = 280 equation 1 and

2x + 18y = 300 equation 2

Equating both the equations by multiplying equation 1 with 2 and equation 2 with 3. We

get -6x + 24y = 560 equation 3

6x + 54y = 900 equation 4

Now, subtract equation 3 from equation 4.

30y = 340

y = 11.3

So, the cost of 1 banana is birr 11.3

Keep the cost of bananas in equation 1 to find the cost of mangoes.

3x + 12y = 280

3x + 12*11.3 = 280

3x + 136 = 280

3x = 144

x = 48

Hence, the cost of 1 kg mangoes is birr 48.
